Vanity is the Greatest Vice
A feel of excessive and false pride that may have been actually thrust upon you, can make you commit what you will, in most likelihood, regret in the future.

Sound very cheesy! But this does happens in our professional lives. Even in the IT industry as well, the very field I am working in. Since you got the skills and people will like you work for them. I won't name any organization but these people offer you a luxurious life style and in return make you work up to 12 hours a day.
Personally if I would be in such a phase (as I am not currently ;)), I would prefer to keep a low profile. Less pomp and show and less luxury. Consumerism would be big "No no" as when you are totally stressed out you are probably off to a shopping spree. So beware. Earn to the extent of your satisfaction. Save to the extent that you don't die hungry. Likewise this is how you make peace with the haters as they don't see you as a threat. Peace of mind, good health, serenity in the vicinity, satisfaction in the work space and above all happy time with family and friends, are all the constituents of a good life.
Earning is useless if you find no time or you lost the ability or you have totally forgotten to smile like the smiley above ;). Just look in the mirror and smile for a while. That would be a litmus test.
This also reminds me of very famous dialogue of Al Pacino (John Milton) that he says to Keanu Reeves (Kevin Lomax) in the movie "The Devil's Advocate";
