The curse of dailymotion.com app on FB

Privacy has been a major issue that Facebook is still not able to resolve. For reserved kind of guys, as I am and hypocritical society, as we are living in, this can turn out to be a big PITA. Recently I was with a task to develop a FB app and I came to know a number of things about that. FB apps pose a bigger threat to privacy in a manner that you can remove the app from your profile but your data will remain with app which is subject to misuse. Though, I knew this already but this started to bite me when I started using DailyMotion's new FB app. Every video I or my friends watched started to appear in the news feed. With anguish I immediately removed the application but couple of days later I just happen to watch a video on DM and that too appear in the FB newsfeeds. I had to delete the posts from my Facebook account. Now this proved that "DM" and "Facebook" were connected i.e. DM takes our Facebook’s IDs and uses them as its own logins.
Now to resolve this:
  • First off,  I recommend neither registering yourself to DM using your Facebook account nor using DM application in FB until and unless their app get better and gets rid of the privacy issues. In case you made the aforementioned blunders, you will not be able to unlink the two accounts because they are handled by single FB account.
  • if you happen to make this make I guess you can abandon your Facebook-linked login on DM.com and rather create a new login on the site if you want to use it.
  • On the other hand, in Facebook you can go to Account (top right) - Privacy Settings - Apps & Websites (bottom left) you may see some DM stuff there that you can block.
Using DM at time is preferable since it is the alternate to YouTube which host the videos that YouTube may refuse to.
